A meme is defined as being short for the Greek word, mimeme, which means “imitated thing.” These “imitated things” are used to explain the way cultural information spreads. This translates into an image having just the right image and the relevant word combo that it leaves an impression big enough to cause change no matter how small. It does not necessarily need to be funny although that is the theme that brought the ‘meme’ back.
A montage is similar and was made popular by Sergei Eisenstein in 1920s’ Russia where it became avant-garde to create a charged aesthetically pleasing image. The like has also been seen during WWI in Zurich and it was called ‘Dada Art’. If you have ever seen the picture of the Mona Lisa with a mustache then you will know what dada art is. This was a movement created out of a reaction to senseless slaughter in their current trenches of war.
The world has become extremely intolerant of the political corruption happening in nearly all countries and on the verge of revolution but opposite of what media tells us, everyday people do not want violence. this has been true in the past and history repeats. Regular people have been stifled big time so recently that in the future our current time will be seen as meme culture or something similar. The human spirit can not be crushed and this will show through in its art. Art has made such an impression that the C.I.A had art funds to fight Soviet propaganda posters. America proved its creativity, intellectual freedom, and cultural power so Russia could not compete. Please do share we have more people to wake up.
I have come a long way from my teenagers saying “Mom it is not called a mee-mee” until now. I will be making a homeschooling page soon and will explain how memes can be used to teach. Some subjects can be taught through 100% memes only. The next page after this will be “1000 Points of Light” Mother of Darkness Castle. All the images here are created by me on a Samsung tablet with s pen.
I will be adding to this as time goes on.
